Background:
The Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, wants students across India to learn Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence in their own regional languages so that modern technology education reaches every child in the country.
The Minister introduces the CT and AI Curriculum for Classes III to VIII, which the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) developed in New Delhi. The curriculum is currently available only in English, but Pradhan wants it translated into regional languages so that every child in India can access and understand it easily.
Pradhan points to India’s strong intellectual history to support this vision. He talks about the ancient mathematicians like Aryabhata and Mahåvirawho built basic knowledge in their own language. He says this tradition must inspire India to bring modern knowledge systems like AI into regional languages as well.
The Minister directs the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to work with state education bodies to translate and roll out the curriculum across languages within the current academic year. He notes that India has the ability to adapt and localize knowledge quickly, thanks to its large and skilled intellectual community.
Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary adds that CBSE schools across India will introduce the new curriculum. He says it fits well within the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP), which promotes innovative teaching methods and early exposure to new technologies.
The CT and AI curriculum helps students from Classes III to VIII develop important digital and thinking skills. It introduces technology to children at an early stage and helps them understand how it works.
