Background:
Deakin University and the Telangana government, through Aikam, signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the State Secretariat in the first week of April. The agreement aims to work together on applied artificial intelligence, skills development, research and innovation.
Both sides exchanged the agreement to begin a long-term partnership focused on new technologies and workforce development. This collaboration supports Telangana’s aim to become a global hub for artificial intelligence and to build a future-ready workforce.
Officials confirmed that their partnership seeks to develop effective research solutions that can benefit both governmental operations and business activities. The framework establishes three primary target areas, which include AI education through training programs and development of educational materials and partnerships between organizations for shared research and practical use of new technologies and their connection to startup companies, industry collaboration and commercial development.
A major outcome of the agreement is the creation of the Aikam–Deakin Hub for Research in Intelligent Technology & Innovation, a joint centre of excellence dedicated to applied AI. The initiative will combine global academic expertise with local capacity for innovation to deliver scalable solutions and promote responsible AI use.
Leaders from both organisations said the partnership shows a shared goal of building an AI ecosystem focused on real results. The project will enhance government services, which will lead to economic development while fostering stronger connections between India and Australia through technological and knowledge-based partnerships.
